…all in the name of good clean competition of course!
June 5th:
That’s it! It’s over! The Detroit Red Wings pick off the Penguins to with their 4th Stanley Cup in the last 11 years. I was pulling for the Pens myself, but either way my life doesn’t change…but the same can’t be said for some lucky poolies out there! Cha-Ching! Time to hand out the moulah!!! And as per tradition again this year, I have not even come close to winning any kind of money in my own pool dammit!.

Before giving away the results, however, I would like to thank everyone for playing! Hope you had fun! If you have any comments or suggestions for next years’ hockey regular season or playoff pools, please do!
Do so below!
A few quick explanations to explain some of the results.
- Firstly: Henrik Zetterberg and Sidney Crosby both finished tied in the point scoring race at 27 points. You are only awarded bonus points for the highest selection you’ve made. So if your first pick was Zetterberg and second was Crosby, you only get points for the Zetterberg pick cause he was picked first. Clear? Should be, or else you should probably stop smoking that stuff growing in that field behind your house!
- Secondly: The BoBo prize was drawn among the bottom six poolies since a couple of you grunts were tied in the rankings. The draw was done by a neutral party. Congratulations to the loser!
- Thirdly: The Good Karma Award was selected by randomly choosing a non money winning poolie with an online random number generator. Geeky? Yes! This is done to ensure that only the poolie with the greatest Karma could influence the computers electric impulses to select his or her ranking! If you believe that crap… stop smoking that stuff growing in that field behind your house!
Get the results below! Prize money will be sent or given directly to the winners! Congratulations to all!
2008 NHL Playoff pool FINAL RESULTS!!!!
May 26th:
Quick update today as the finals are now underway with Detroit winning the first game of the series 4-0.
You can get your round 4 picks below, as always let me know if any errors have slipped in. For those of you who did not manage to send in your picks, I have randomly assigned a team and game amount to you for this round. Hey, it’s better than getting zero!
Like I said, quick post! Talk you you soon!
May 20th: The Finals are set!
We are now down to the wire as the Penguins and Red Wings will meet in the cup final. The Penguins did what Montreal couldn’t, and that’s exploit the Flyers weaknesses and dispose of them in 5 games. Thanks Pittsburgh! I don’t think Habs fans could’ve taken another team that eliminates them winning the Stanley Cup again… That’s right, the last 2 teams to eliminate Montreal from the playoffs went on to win the cup (See Tampa Bay and Carolina)!
Congrats to the bunch of you who predicted the Pittsburgh/Detroit final pairing at the start of the pool! Those bonus points have now been added to your score.
You now have one last pick to make, and for some of you, this will be a very important pick as this final is anything but a given for either team! This can really go either way as the Penguins are 12-2 in these playoffs so far, and Detroit is 12-4. It will be the most exciting Stanley Cup final in years!
Those of you who are thinking “I’m too far out to win any money…” can think again! If your bonus player picks are still around, you can get up to a 15 point boost in the standings, which will make things interesting until the last game as been played!
The finals start Saturday, so please send me (irish4ever12@gmail.com) your pick to win, and in how many games, between Pittsburgh and Detroit before Friday, May 23rd, at 5 pm!!!

Good luck to all!
May 13th: Red hot Wings!
It’s been a busy weekend, thus me not getting around to posting your picks, but better late than never I guess, so here they are if your interested: Get your round 3 picks here!
I might be posting again to this page sooner rather than later as the Red Wings continue to kick
ass and take names like no ones business. Will anybody stop them? Can anybody fight off the octopi?!?! All you Pittsburgh fans have to be a little worried about your next opponent, because let’s face it, the Flyers are Cinderella history. They are down 2-0 in the series and have lost their top two defencemen. Plus every Habs fan from Montreal to the moon is sending all the bad vibes and voodoo they can to Philly.
At least it will be an exciting, high flying, goal scoring final: Detroit Vs. Pittsburgh. I’ve also noticed a lot of poolies have (so far) correctly predicted that the two previously mentioned teams could be the two teams to actually make it to the final! Cha-Ching! Bonus points ahoy! We’ll see how that plays out in the standings. And if some of you are superstitious and believe I’ve just jinxed it by saying it… well good!
I’m almost last in my own pool!!! I’m allowed to spread the misery a little!
Tonight sees the Pens try and go up 3-0 in their series, can they do it? We’ll find out soon enough!
That’s it for now!
May 5th: Dunne Domination!!!
What a weekend! Three more teams bit the big one, including my beloved Habs!
But the loss stings less than previous playoff exits, because they have such a good core of young players that this year can only be seen as a success. They can only gain from this experience and I’m sure that a couple off-season additions will round out the team nicely!
How can you complain about the Habs when nobody predicted the playoffs for them at the beginning of the season, let alone 1st place in the Eastern Conference! So Congrats to the Habs on a great season, anybody who says otherwise can shut their cake-hole!
Round 2 is over and that means a standings update, and its quite surprising to tell you the truth. There are still two rounds left and the bonus points to hand out, but I’ve never seen a family dominate a pool (hockey or otherwise) like what’s happening now! Must be the luck of the Irish!
Quick stats:
- Player winning the most points this round: Mike Montplaisir (31 out of 40 possible points)
- Player winning the least points this round: John McCormick (12 out of 40 possible points)

As For round 3, send me a simple email at irish4ever12@gmail.com and let me know who’ll win the following series and in how many games:
- Pittsburg Vs Philadelphia
- Detroit Vs Dallas
The deadline for Round 3 picks is Thursday, May 8th, 5pm!
That’s it! Have a good week everybody!!!
May 2nd:
Another team is out! And I can’t say I’m surprised
The Colorado Avalanche have completely crumbled and were swept away by a dangerous Detroit team. José Théodore again lived up to his talent and was pulled for the third straight game after proving he has as much puck stopping power as a Kleenex. This guy gets more tugs than an eleven year old at Neverland Ranch!
And as you can see from the pic, he’s on his back more that Paris Hilton.
Here’s a quick update on the other series:
Dallas is up 3-1 over San Jose and I a just about freaking out! San Jose was my pick to win the cup, which proves that you can be an avid hockey fan and organize a bunch of pools, but you can’t pick a winner to save your life! That’s why I am where I am in the pool standings
Make no mistake, however, San Jose is pulling off the biggest choke since Mama Kass and her ham sandwich.
Pittsburg is up 3-1 over the New-York Rangers and I’m glad. I would have hated to see that little runt Sean Avery and his cheap tactics make it further in the playoffs. Players that don’t respect the game or other players don’t deserve to be playing in the playoffs, let alone in the NHL. No class should equal no play, but that’s my humble opinion! Plus, watching Crosby and Malkin play is too much fun!
As you know, the Habs are in trouble, but at least we don’t have Théodore in nets anymore. Look for them to win game 5 at home and send it back to Philly for game 6. A guy at work was selling his tickets to the game, and when I turned him down, he said: “You don’t want tickets to the Habs last game?”. I replied: “No, I don’t want tickets to Philly’s 2nd to last game!”. Habs ’till the end! GO HABS GO!
April 23rd:
Round 1 is now over and I did the Snoopy Happy Dance when the HABS finally got rid of those pesky Bruins! Next up for us , the Philly Flyers, which Montreal dominated this season winning all four games against them.
Round 2 starts Thursday, so all round 2 picks must be submitted by THURSDAY 5PM! ![]()

GO HABS GO!!!
April 21st:
It was a big weekend for the playoffs! Four teams kicked the bucket and are now spending time looking for their golf balls in the woods. Anaheim (dead ducks), New Jersey (in hell for how they played), Nashville (stick to country music) and Minnesota (they lost to Theodore for crap sakes!) now join the Senators, who died in the coliseum to some rabid penguins, in first round defeat. They have much to learn, those young grasshoppers
Who will join them? Montreal(Go Habs Go!) or Boston? Calgary or San José? Philly or Washington? We’ll find out this week!
It’s girl power in the pool today as the ladies have 3 of the first 5 spots
! Way to go ladies! So far you’re teachin’ us boys a lesson in hockey
If you don’t know the pic on the left… the shame! That’s Sigourney Weaver kickin’ ass and taking names in ALIENS. She was voted as the 8th greatest movie hero of all time by the American Film Institute. Thought it would be fitting seeing as the ladies are doing so well
April 19th:
Well Ottawa is the first team out this year! Can’t say I’m surprised… but what does surprise me is the rumor that the franchise will be changing names next year: The Ottawa Titanics. I think that’s a fitting name as its plays well on their promising start to the regular season (16-2), up to their utter demise and destruction in the playoffs! They only got 706 fans out of the building before it sank, after hitting an iceberg full of penguins.

It looks like Chuck Norris has a lot of work to do, he’s gonna have to head back to the Vietcong to find Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley as they’ve been M.I.A. since the series began! Gerber isn’t M.I.A. however, they found him at a toll booth next to Sonny Corleone… and I’ll let you guess who had more holes in them.
If there’s any goods news to come of this, its that the “battle of Ontario” will now take place on the golf course! Will Alfredsson out-drive Sundin? Who will block the most putts…Gerber or Toskala? Who knows…and who cares!
GO HABS GO!

Here is a comment! If you have any questions, leave one too!
Whats the deal with the pee and poo up there ???
Go Habs Go !
Oh ! Yeah
That has to do with my family blog! I am a new dad so, my wife and I had a competition to see who would get peed on less when changing diapers! lol
So that’s my son Sam’s score! He’s nailed me 8 times and my wife 5!
You should have made a “peed on” pool.
You know, there might be money in that, but I’m afraid it would attract the wrong sort of people… If you catch my golden drift?
1st update !
No sign of Pat Beck there….
Was he too busy drinking beer in Punta Cana and he missed the pool HE suggested I join or does he suck so bad you didnt want to put him on the page ?
Hang in there ladies !
(good thing a lot of favorites got the boot tho…..
Hi John thanks for picking for me, so far so good!! And I love your Simpson “family” caracters!
Phil: Pat Beck was too drunk to do anything right while in Punta Cana, so it’s no surprise he didn’t send his picks in…
I guess he forgot, but people tend to do that when you pass out by the toilet every night
Lyne La Voisine: My pleasure Lyne! Your/my picks are doing better than my own! Funny how that works huh? But there’s still a lot of time for me to catch up to myself/you!
